week 6 sea to sea

Thurs 8-7-08
Animals seen: A flock of nearly 50 Whooping Cranes!! This is big for me, to see these huge endangered birds in their natural habitat. :)
People I've met: I rode alone but, met Tony who is taking a break after a fall a couple of days ago. Tony lived in Paterson for a year doing an intern(?) at Madison Ave. CRC.
Miles Biked: 113, don't know average exactly. sidewinds, headwinds and an occassional tailwind.
Meaningful Thought: Iowa is NOT flat, and is quite beautiful.

Iowa is NOT flat . . . that's funny, although probably not so funny on a 100-mile ride.

We've been having rain every afternoon - not so good for riding. Rod and I got caught on our bikes in a torrential downpour the other day, then a few days later he fell hard on a wet steel-deck bridge. Careful if you hit any of those in wet weather - wicked dangerous, worse than glare ice! (He's fine, but bruised.)

Stay safe! Hope you're having fun!

Nancy,
I enjoy reading your blog, trying to imagine what it's really like! It's probably hard to believe that you're almost to Grand Rapids already. Stay safe on the home stretch this week and have a great time!

Nancy,
We are still in Ireland. Please pray for Gram Burdick. She became ill and was hospitalized on Friday at Kerry General Hospital. Her condition is grave. We have purchased a cell phone , you will need to find out the code to call Ireland then dial 0863757997. love
